PROGRAMME

Indoor Meets

While we have no indoor programme over the summer, there are informal evenings in the Bon Accord, where members can socialise and plan walks/days out over the summer. Bon Accord nights are the first and third Thursdays each month and will be as follows: May 17, June 7 and 21, July 5 and 19

August 2 and 16 (we could squeeze another one in on the 30 August, if there is demand)

Sept 6. Meeting time about 9 ish - for anyone who doesn't know the Bon Accordis on North Street (close to CharingCross/Mitchell Library).

June 22-24 Muir of Invereye Coordinator Dave Webster 0141 5638964

A rather late advertisement for this meet, it appeared in the programme for the year and was announced at the AGM. The bunkhouse is full but there should be room at the Youth Hostel which is very nearby and is being looked after by John and Helen Read during this period.

July 13-16 Harris Coordinator Gordon Dykes 01413573936

A trip to Harris is proposed for the Glasgow Fair weekend. It is proposed that perhaps to save costs a restricted number of vehicles will be taken on the ferry. The Corbett, Clisham, is a popular target.

MOUNTAIN BOTHIES ASSOCIATION NEWS

As mentioned in last G.G.C. Newsletter, the very first M.B.A. Members’ Handbook, now published, was to include notes of all M.B.A. maintained bothies, with grid references-and so it does! However, it has much more to commend it than this, as it is a well produced and very readable book, which includes much of the early history and background of the M.B.A., how the M.B.A. is organised and funded, the safe and sanitary use of bothies and the surrounding countryside and indeed the whole ethos of bothying. Most G.G.C. members, I feel sure, could learn much from this excellent publication and I would recommend that G.G.C. members borrow it from our club library, when available. Many aspects of the great outdoors are covered, not by any means exclusively related to bothying.

It is interesting to note that out of about eight people named in early M.B.A. history, two were members of G.G.C. and three others have given talks at our Club (only one about M.B.A.!).

H.T.
