GLASGOW GLENMORE CLUB – INTERIM NEWSLETTER JULY 2002

Editorial

This extra edition of the GGC Newsletter comes primarily to give you advance notice of September’s meets. Here are the details:

PROGRAMME

September Co-ordinator Brian McDaid 0141- 357 3126

Thurs 12th Sept – Members’ Pyrenees Slides 7.30pm for 8pm (venue to be confirmed)

With luck, these very slides are being taken as this newsletter goes to press!

The meal beforehand is likely to be in Di Maggio’s, Ruthven Lane – but will depend on indoor meet venue

Sun 15th Sept – Kingshouse Hotel Car Park, Glencoe OS 41 GR 259547

The site of some memorable meets and let’s hope this first of the season is another one. Walking, scrambling, climbing – take your pick. Time to meet friends old and new.

Fri Sept 27th – Mon Sept 30th – Torridon – Ling Hut OS 25 GR 957564

The first weekend of the new season sees us among Scotland’s finest hills. The Ling hut is booked and takes 12. It has gas central heating and lighting. Sleeping bags and karrimats are required. Book your place now with Brian. The full amount of £5.00 per night (3 nights) is to be paid at time of booking.

Overflow will be in Torridon Youth Hostel GR 904559. Make your own booking there. Phone number is: 01445 791284.

IMPORTANT !

Due to spiralling costs of hiring Hillhead Library, the committee are currently looking into changing the venue of indoor meets. Look out for details in future newsletters and on the club’s website.

VOLUNTEER YOUTH HOSTEL MANAGERS

Four of our members are acting as volunteer youth hostel managers this summer:

They would be delighted to see Glenmorons during their respective residencies.

Competition - Which Hostel Is Which?

Answers are at the foot of the page. (There are no prizes - despite the bold suggestion that a potential winner should be offered "a meal out with the committee member of their choice"!)

THE GREAT OUTDOORS CHALLENGE

Congratulations to the six club members who took part in and completed the challenge this year. They are: John McPartlin and Ralph Spence, Tim Mason, Denis Pidgeon, Garrey Whyte and Rosemary Masterton.

MUNRO COMPLEATION

My own, actually. It took place on Ben More on Mull on Saturday 22nd June. A memorable day for many reasons: the early morning sail from Lochaline; the lovely scenery and soft air of the island; the company of Glenmorons; the splendid mountains itself; the rush to catch the last ferry!

At the summit a toast to absent friends was drunk – if you weren’t there, that includes you!
