Renewable Energy (Wind Farms).

Into the lion’s den stepped Jason Ormiston from Scottish Renewables. This is a trade body representing companies working in this area. They range from large utilities such as Scottish Power to small single person companies, eating lentils, wearing sandals and fitting small wind turbines.

The talk was interesting and at only 40mins brief. The fact that Scottish Renewables see wind power as only a small park of the picture surprised me, and perhaps took some of the breeze from our sails. Jason took the party line and while you may disagree with the generation of wind in the high mountains it is certainly true that we have to reduce our carbon emissions before it’s too late.

The questions were lively and Jason handled them well. He reassured us that all the planning applications currently being considered would not be granted or even needed, and waxed about how Scotland had lots of Europe’s potential for wind, wave and tidal power.

John McPartlin did a vote of thanks at short notice for which I’m very grateful
