Day Meet to Glen Falloch

Sunday 12th November 2006-11-17

The snow had already been falling on the mountain tops of Loch Lomond side, and the previous day had been atrocious weather with gales and torrential rain in Glasgow. However, as is to be expected, those who had already committed to a day in the hills trooped out and met in the rather busy car park. We soon divided into 2 parties, those attempting the boggy wasteland of Beinn Chabhair, and those aiming for a Corbett, Meall An Fhudair.

The former party comprised Henry Perfect, Fred Craddock, Janet Gaywood and David Foster.

The Corbett party initially started out as Alice Harrison, Liz Maitland, Dave Webster, Isobel Freeman, Dave Reynolds, Phyllis Smith and Brian McDaid. We were joined by the latecomers who just made it to the starting point before we took off, Jon Barnes, Andrew Barnes and a visitor Jon’s German lab assistant Julia Platter.

This intrepid group undertook some serious navigation through the misty and featureless tops to gain the summit. No views and steady rain characterised the day. However spirits were high especially as the pub became a reality, and we had a few hot and cold drinks in the Drover’s Inn. This hostelry has retained its unique fug despite the no smoking ban. However the service was good and the staff gave us a private room.

All in all a good day with a satisfying finish.
