Indoor meet Thursday 17th November 2005
Stuart Holland, Michael Bellingham and Ross Bainbridge
from Tiso
We were entertained by a trio from Tiso – no there was no singing,
but an information packed session on soft shell, which is apparently the
way of the future (as opposed to hard sell) which I thought they were
doing!
Anyway, Gore-Tex has had its day! We are now back to wool layers and
thin fleeces which keep out wind and rain even in Scotland! Just as well
some of us have kept the tradition of winter woollies alive.
However, hem lines in cagoules may be rising this winter, so those of
us with knee length hard outer shells may be overtaken by the asymmetric
jacket to allow for stretching on a bicycle. The seven day trousers also
featured.
Stuart gave an impressive power point magic mapping exercise where
the 3D version of the proposed walk opens before the viewer on the
screen. This is in case it is too misty on the actual walk to see
anything. Could the walk also be virtual carried out in the comfort of
the living room looking at the virtual view?
With the increasing cost of maps and the possibility of downloading
any area of GB onto a waterproof sheet this does seem tempting
especially as the print can be of any scale.
The trio worked hard and admitted at the end that this was the first
talk they had given to a club. Obviously the Glenmore club gave them too
easy a time as they asked to be invited back again!
