Camping at Ballater in June 2005
The Glenmore tents were all pitched on Friday at the
campsite so that we could all sit round and enjoy the warm balmy evening
chatting and drinking wine without the dreaded midges. Plans were
discussed and made for the following day. Harrold and Connie went up
Brown Cow Hill, a new Corbett for Connie; Dave Broadfoot and Mary walked
round Loch Muick (Mary having a knee problem); Hugh and Henry tackled
two Munros from Linn of Dee, Beinn Bhreach and Beinn Chaorain; Dave and
Mary Reynolds had an enjoyable day on Conachraig; Ruth, Brian, Liz
Maitland and David Foster enjoyed the good weather and views on Carn
Liath and Culardoch.
Saturday evening was another beautiful night with no
midges and a lot of chatting and drinking of wine was done whilst
discussing plans for Sunday. However, at 4 am thunder and rain started
and continued until morning. The rain did stop and Liz, Hugh, Dave
Foster and Henry went round to have a look at the Devil’s Punch Bowl and
then went up Carn na Drochaide but the only views were those described
in the Corbett book! Harrold and Connie went up Ben Newe (might be a
Marilyn or is it a Donald?) The others decided to do some sight-seeing.
All in all it was a great week-end and Ballater
campsite is highly recommended for another visit in the future.
