TOP SPOT FOR MOTHER OF ONE

Those Lycra lovelies were out again. Sweating, swaying, sprinting and shuffling round the Britannic Asset Management Women’s 10K Road race on Sunday 15th May 2005. We shout hooray and throw our towels in the air to salute their perspiration, hail their application, admire their Britannic Assets as more personal bests (PB) were set and cartilage damaged in the name of the sisterhood.

What hot blooded male could resist these gorgeous Glenmoron (luckily none are grannies so I can stop the alliteration there) matriarchs as they navigated the mean streets of the south side in the pursuit of personal fulfilment.

"Phew It’s a Scorcher" would have been the headline of any self-respecting tabloid newspaper. However editors are only human and male so instead a picture of a bevy of Celtic cuties would have to do.

Our first home was sexy mother of one Rosi Masterton in 46min49sec in 280th place. Then that bubbly Brummie babe Mary Cox rolled in not far behind at 50:07 (PB) 648th; flaming read-head temptress Sue Johnston was third 53.42 (PB) 1386th, Cora "The Sprint" Moffat powered home in 56:17 2220th (PB) overtaking many on the final straight with well judged reserves of Va Va Voom. Naughty nurse Jackie took our temperature with a tempting 59:23 3462nd in her first outing over the distance; Isobel broke free of the chasing pack of admirers and paparazzi to coast home in 58:56 Dr Elvire broke hearts and set pulses racing as she prescribed a time of 59:36, "just what the doctor ordered" was her prescription after our consultation; there was no need of a bed bath from the matron of the club, curvaceous cutie Sister Kate Stewart 1:00:19 3897th, she knows how to apply a salve and in that uniform who wouldn’t want her to apply a cold compress; boffin Lorna Gillespie proved that you can travel in time by clocking 1:02:27 but with brains as well as the body it was a pleasure to wait; Anna McLeay engineered a time of 1:02:47

So another race over! The result is not important we celebrate their achievement and wait for the advertising assignments to flow in. The post race party in Kate and Alan Stewart’s sumptuous garden was a gala affair; with A list celebrities dropping in to sign autographs and talk to fans who lined the red carpet. Veronica dropped by to meet her well wishers and Alan worked up a sweat over the Barbie.

Rosi’s time was the fastest in her age group by a good margin. In fact she would have been tenth in the band ten years younger. So a special hooray to Rosi

So till next year "happy trails"

Gordon
