Glasgow Glenmore Club

Sunday February 13th Carsphairn Meet

The Party:--

Hugh Bourhill, David Reynolds, Henry Perfect, Mary Cox

Colin, David and Monica Farrow, John Barnes

Ania Owsianka, Patricia Murphy

Nine Glenmorons and one visitor ventured out on this the most inclement of days; those that stayed in bed were the lucky ones! Escaping the iced up roads in Glasgow and arriving safely at the rendezvous point was an achievement in itself. Any thoughts of a longish day were immediately discounted on stepping out of the car, as high winds and freezing temperatures greeted us.

The Corbett Cairnsmore of Carsphairn was selected for the party of ten. On the ascent the wind rose while spirits, visibility and the barometer fell. Walking in such a large group was always going to be difficult especially in the deteriorating conditions. Our visitor, Ania’s friend Patricia certainly picked the wrong day to experience the joys of the Glenmore, and was finding the going tough. As Henry had previously bagged this hill he gallantly volunteered to return with Ania and Patricia to the comfort and warmth of the village pub.

The remaining seven of us steadily zig zagged our way through the snowstorm over the summit with hardly a pause as it was so unprotected. On the return leg, clouds rose affording some decent views over the Galloway Hills, the sun shone raising the temperature to a balmy two degrees below zero! In these conditions dodging through the peat hags and waterlogged moor on the walk out was almost a pleasure.

The complete party reunited in the village pub, Patricia was now in good spirits; even declaring that she had enjoyed herself; we may even see her back!!!
