Members "OLD" Slide Night

Thursday 14th October 2004

Around forty members turned up to enjoy this nostalgic trip down memory lane. To my surprise this included a substantial quota of those who are too recent to know some of the cult figures displayed on screen. The hills haven’t changed much, except the Gendarme on Sgurr nan Gillian who has gone AWOL; the fashions have changed beyond all recognition. No Lycra, no breathable fabrics and no fleece. Clothing was designed to get wet and heavy as the day went on. There also seemed to be more snow and partial nudity back then. Must have been the permissive society.

The projector behaved better than it has, but still has a habit of editing out random slides. Harrold had one of the Ballachulish Ferry before the bridge was built in a glass mount that was too thick for the cartridge. Things were built to last then.

The quality and variety was good and Fred’s hard core Alpine climbing reminded me of the Eiger Sanction but without the slaughter and Clint Eastwood
