The two groups left the South Loch Earn road together (NN 633 232),
in rain, at 10.00am , Southward bound by the track past Ardvorlich
House.
After one and a half kilometres, the track divides, with the Meall na
Fearna party taking the South Easterly track up Glen Vorlich along the
burn side.
The Ben Vorlich party noted how much good work had been done on the
path above the Landrover track from Ardvorlich. This is of great
assistance to the walker.
The Ben Vorlich party used ice axes and crampons for the last 150
metres in very wintry weather. Other walkers on the summit had neither
item.
Unfortunately, there were no views to be seen but everyone enjoyed
the short day. It had been well worth the effort.
The Meall na Fearna party decided to turn South to climb Beinn
Domhnuill (739 metres) on the way to Meall na Fearna.
As the party proceeded up Glen Vorlich, the rain had turned to snow.
In a blizzard, on the top of Beinn Domhnuill, there was a discussion as
to whether the party should proceed or drop back down into Glen Vorlich.
It was decided to proceed Southwards, as one could drop down to the
Ardvorlich-Callander track at any point.
After the summit of Meall na Fearna, the party descended to join the
track at the Gleann an Dubh Choirein bealach. This was breathtakingly
beautiful in thick snow, and steep slopes on either side.
The track led North down to Ardvorlich. On the way, the party saw two
white hares, and one lying dead on the track.
The party arrived back at the estimated time of 4.00pm, after a
lively and enjoyable day.
