The first indoor meet of the new season took place in
a hall at the back of the Church of Scotland’s Wellington Church on
University Avenue. It would appear that the Glenmore have picked a
winner with this one. Handy for all the old haunts on Byres Road and a
magnificent building in its own right. I do urge members, when they get
a chance, to view the Kirk properly. It is breathtaking and a superb
tribute to Glaswegian Victorian architecture, at its very best.
As one would expect the slides lived up to
expectations. It was all there. Valle de Ordessa, Breche de Roland,
Monte Perdido, thunder storms, wet camps, snow, brilliant sunshine, old
hill villages all faithfully recorded by the contributors. We even had
our own "Rocky Horror" type audience participation, where we
voiced in unison the views before the presenter could speak. Great fun.
A good night in a good venue and lets remember at 30%
of the library’s charge, the club have certainly found a gem here.
