November 2003
Not Sue and Gordon cycling in Laos or Cuba, in fact no cycling at all
due to a postal strike in Cuba, or possibly London. John Donnelly
stepped in at short notice to give an excellent evening's entertainment.
He walked (rapidly I should think ) over GR 20 in Corsica, north to
south. This is something I've been hankering at doing for some time so
found it particularly interesting.
I couldn't work out why we started in Scotland, though, and finished
in the Lake District. Would I have to do that bit too? Keith Adams
accompanied John, completing the route in nine days. This route normally
takes much longer, John recommending two weeks for a more leisurely
trip. The scenery was very variable, from lovely green pastures to
spectacular rocky ridges, and all done in hill running shoes, or was it
sannies? This was a back packing trip, which necessitates carrying at
least two or three days food, but provisions can be bought en route.
John and Keith camped throughout, but it was also possible to stay at
huts providing varying standards of food and accommodation. Many of the
slides featured John in various precarious positions, he has I
understand promised not to pursue a career in modelling.
Douglas Philp gave a vote of thanks for a most entertaining evening.
