Callander - 9th November 2003

Thirty people converged on the car park in Ancaster Square in Callander at or around the appointed time and after the usual debates, indecision and scribbling on route cards, the following parties emerged.

Apart from Chris and Dave, who left the party early to prepare food for the hungry hordes, all completed their routes, as far as I know. Most, if not all, ended up with a sausage supper, plus many extras, including delicious sweets of all kinds, at Chris Huxham’s where Chris and Dave made everyone welcome – even those who hadn’t climbed a hill – and there were a few of them!

The weather was dry all day, with some sunny periods, but cold on the tops.

It was interesting to note that the biggest party did not ascend either a Munro or a Corbett! Draw your own conclusions, but from my own perspective, Uamh Mhor had a very interesting natural feature on its West flank – go and see for yourself!

I believe only nine people had put down their names at the beginning of that week, which number increased to about double that by the indoor meet – yet thirty turned up for the meet itself and even more at Chris’s home - such is her reputation as a cook! We are all very indebted to Chris and Dave for their massive spread and generous hospitality, as well as sacrificing half their hill-day!

On a more serious note, it was most disappointing to note that not one of the much simplified route cards was completed, with essential information omitted in all cases.
